In relation to other MLB cities, Pittsburgh is a “small market”. It’s the 23rd ranked metro area in the US with 2.3M people in city and surrounding areas, right behind Charlotte, NC and ahead of Portland, OR (neither of whom have teams).

The ROOT contract was a 20 year deal signed about 5 years. They have most likely missed the window for the prime TV deals before this bubble bursts.
]]>Great Companies … Humble Beginnings … ala carte style of viewing, This needs a longer view. The Root contract will expire. There are big cities where nobody has roots and there are smaller cities from which everyone has roots. The current media & MLB model hasn’t caught up to that yet but ala carte pricing will change that structure. You’ve blemished an otherwise exceptional article using that short sighted and backward term.
