Stephon Tuitt Dodges Injury Bullet & Other Steelers Nuggets

Stephon Tuitt’s biceps tendon is not torn, which is cause for rejoicing in Steeler Nation
The biggest story of the day involved the injury status of Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt. In the first quarter of Sunday’s game versus the Cleveland Browns, Tuitt left the game with a bicep injury. Through the course of the day, there was much speculation as to the severity of Tuitt’s injury. ESPN Analyst and NFL Insider Adam Schefter had speculated yesterday that Stephon Tuitt’s injury was a torn bicep, which would result in his season coming to an end.
Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt signed $61M deal Saturday. Today team fears he tore his biceps. Monday is MRI. If torn, his season would be over.

Early Monday afternoon, Family Medicine and Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Jesse Morse, submitted this update regarding Tuitt’s injury status:
Update on Tuitt: he should be back in 1-2 weeks as he has a proximal biceps strain & will not need surgery. Best case scenario.

The update was later substantiated by an updated seen on ESPN senior writer Jeremy Fowler’s Twitter profile:
Steelers 'breathing a sigh of relief' on Stephon Tuitt bicep injury, teammate Cam Heyward said. "Not season-ending," he said.

As it stands at this point, the Steelers defense will be without Stephon Tuitt as they formulate a rehabilitation plan for his bicep injury; however, this is good news considering the impact Tuitt has had on this defense.
Former Steelers receiver Cobi Hamilton invited to work out with the Texans
After an uninspiring performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday, the Houston Texans invited former Steelers receiver Cobi Hamilton to workout in their facilities, as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Hamilton was released by the Steelers during their final cuts on September 2nd. Although Hamilton did not have a strong showing during the preseason, he proved to be a valuable asset to the Steelers receiving corps during the tail end of last season and in the playoffs.
Outside linebacker TJ Watt unsatisfied after historic performance
After making history in yesterday victory against the Cleveland Browns, Watt was not resting on his laurels; rather, he is already looking for ways to improve. According to Fowler, Watt was noted stating that his team “left a lot of plays out there in the backfield”. This type of mindset can only bode well for Watt and the rest of the defense going forward.
Steelers linebacker LJ Fort to be released
In a surprising move, the Steelers are set to release linebacker LJ Fort, as per writer Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. Although nothing has been made official at this point, Fort only played one snap in their victory Sunday against the Browns. Some speculate that this move was made in relation to Tuitt’s injury status, as the Steelers are likely to activate a player from the practice squad to take his place during his absence. Fort’s main contributions were on special teams, as he was on their first-team unit. More details concerning Fort’s release are likely to be made available in the upcoming days.
