I thought that it was a bold move to draft him — I wasn’t against him. I did say that I had a firm amount that I would pay him. If I remember, some posters were saying to pay him crazy, exorbitant amounts of monies. I can’t remember what I argued for the max to be.

I did make a radio spot on Savran’s show after his signing and try to temper expectations. I told Stan that he was a 3-1/2 tool player and not the next McCutchen — you could audibly hear the wind going out of his sails.

But feel free to discuss my thread about “Does Anyone Think We Should Have Taken Posey Over Alvarez?” that I put up right after the draft. That’s one I remember quite clearly.

Thanks for finding TPOP and reading our work. I hope you like the site.

Great piece. I remember on OBN you were dead set against the Pirates taking Bell and then argued against signing him. Do you still feel that drafting and signing him was a mistake? If not, what has changed your mind?

I miss those days at OBN and wish I could still post there. Its to bad you stopped posting to.
